The presently disclosed subject matter involves methods of predicting response in a subject to treatment for a disease with a VEGF targeted therapeutic, and for evaluating and/or monitoring treatment for a disease involving use of a VEGF targeted therapeutic in a subject. Such methods involve determining a level of ANGPTL4 expression in a biological sample from the subject and comparing the level of ANGPTL4 expression in the sample with a reference, wherein the subject is predicted to be a likely responder or non-responder based on the ANGPTL4 expression in the sample relative to the reference.
