Toothpaste It has been found that toothpastes containing balance amounts of calcium based abrasive, copolymer of vinylmethylether and maleic acid and clay have significantly better stability even at elevated temperature. It has also been determined that the selected combination allows for complete removal of, or at least a significant reduction in thickening silica, with almost no adverse effect on rheology. Disclosed is a toothpaste composition comprising: (i) a calcium based abrasive (ii) a copolymer of vinylmethyl ether and maleic acid and, (iii) a clay, wherein ratio of the calcium based abrasive to said copolymer of vinylmethyl ether * and maleic acid is at least 1:0075 and ratio of said calcium based abrasive to said clay is at least 1:0.02.
