PURPOSE: A composition containing a squirrel pox virus for preventing and treating cancer is provided to specifically decompose human cancer cells and to suppress cancer cell growth. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cancer contains a squirrel pox virus as an active ingredient. The virus is a wild type virus and is prepared using BHK(Baby Hamster Kidney) cells. The virus additionally contains a foreign gene for treating cancer. The virus is loaded in the virus carrier cells and enhances the treatment effect in the vivo. The composition additionally contains a chemotherapeutic agent or an immunotherapeutic agent. A composition for diagnosing cancer contains the virus as an active ingredient.본 발명은 다람쥐폭스바이러스 (Squirrelpox virus)를 유효성분으로 포함하는 암 예방 및 치료용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 다람쥐폭스바이러스 (Squirrelpox virus, SQPV)는 정상조직세포에는 아무런 영향을 미치지 않으면서, 인간 암조직세포에 특이적으로 감염하여 암세포를 분해하는 작용(oncolytic activity)을 일으켜 암세포의 성장을 억제한다. 따라서 본 발명의 다람쥐폭스바이러스는 암 예방 및 치료에 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
