A method for treatment of cancerous tissue in the upper respiratory system including the steps of: injecting HPPH in a physiologically compatible medium into a patient having the cancerous tissue at a level of 3 through 5 mg/m2 of body surface area, waiting for a time period of 24 through 60 hours to permit preferential absorption of the HPPH into the cancerous tissue, and exposing the cancerous tissue to light at a wavelength of about 665 ± 5 nm at an energy of about 75 to about 200 Joules/cm.Linvention concerne un procédé de traitement dun tissu cancéreux dans le système respiratoire supérieur qui comprend les étapes suivantes : injection de HPPH dans un milieu physiologiquement compatible dans un patient ayant un tissu cancéreux, à hauteur de 3 à 5 mg/m2 de surface corporelle, attente pendant une période temps de 24 à 60 heures pour permettre labsorption préférentielle du HPPH dans le tissu cancéreux, et exposition du tissu cancéreux à de la lumière à une longueur dondes denviron 665 ± 5 nm à une énergie denviron 75 à environ 200 Joules/cm.
