The present subject matter relates to absorbent articles and signaling devicesfor use therewith. An absorbent article may be provided with selected electricalcomponents used as wetness or other type sensors and may also incorporate oneor more electrical components, characteristics of which may be determined bya coupled signaling device. An attached signaling device may automaticallydetermine a product identification based on characteristics of the electricalcomponents detected and adjust operating characteristics or parameters forthe sensing device. Determinations could be made based on gender, age and approximateweight of the user of the absorbent device. In addition automatic checks can bemade to determine mutual operability of the signaling device with an associatedabsorbent article or visa-versa.
