To provide a relatively small-scale grafting apparatus capable of almost automatically producing grafted understocks quickly and inexpensively.SOLUTION: A grafting apparatus S comprises a graft supply unit 1, a stock supply unit 2, and a grafted-understock producing unit 3. The graft supply unit 1 cuts the stem of a held graft 4' to produce a scion 4 and moves the scion 4 to a first position. The stock supply unit 2 cuts the stem of a held stock 5' to produce an understock 5 and moves the understock 5 to a second position below the first position such that the stem is substantially coaxial with the stem of the scion 4.
