An apparatus for inserting a marker into a tissue at a biopsy site, comprising a long shaft moving together with the plunger and a joint secured to the distal end of the shaft. The device may include a cannula having a distal end of the shaft and having a crimp, dimple or other feature formed near the distal end of the shaft. The cannula may include a side opening through which the marker can be ejected from the lumen.
