Provided are an X-ray imaging apparatus, which acquires a vessel image at a high frame rate to detect a vessel connected to a lesion, and displays the vessel connected to a lesion to be discriminated from other vessels, and a method of controlling the X-ray imaging apparatus. The X-ray imaging apparatus comprises: an X-ray source which irradiates a target using an X-ray； an X-ray detecting unit which senses the X-ray penetrating the target and acquires data at a high frame rate； a processor which analyzes a movement aspect of a contrast medium based on the data acquired at the X-ray detecting unit to calculate a target image； and a display which displays a manipulated image based on the target image.고속 프레임 레이트로 혈관 영상을 획득하여 병변에 연결된 혈관을 검출하고, 병변에 연결된 혈관을 다른 혈관과 구분되도록 표시하는 엑스선 영상장치 및 그 제어방법이 제공된다. 엑스선 영상장치는 대상체로 엑스선을 조사하는 엑스선소스, 대상체를 투과한 엑스선을 감지하여 고속 프레임 레이트로 데이터를 획득하는 엑스선 검출부, 엑스선 검출부에서 획득한 데이터에 기초하여 조영제의 이동양상(aspect)을 분석함으로써 타겟 영상을 산출하는 프로세서 및 타겟 영상에 기초하여 가공된 영상을 표시하는 디스플레이를 포함한다.
