PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing underpants-type wearing article with excellent external appearance and texture having side seal parts, by effectively avoiding contraction of elastic members in heat seal areas while obtaining a sufficient sealing strength.SOLUTION: This production method produces an underpants-type wearing article 1 provided with a covering material 11 having side seal parts S. In this production method, a continuous body of the covering material 11 in which elastic members 14-16 are arranged in an extended state is overlapped between band-shaped sheets. Then, a region CT in which the elastic members are divided is formed by dividing the elastic members 14-16 of the overlapped continuous body of the covering material 11 into multiple individual pieces at intervals. Subsequently, the band-shaped sheets of the covering material 11 are subjected to heat sealing at the region CT. Finally, the underpants-type wearing article 1 having the side seal parts S is formed by cutting off the sealed region.
