The subject of the invention is an apparatus for the cultivation and harvesting of asparagus stalks in asparagus plantations, having a covering cowl which is placed over the asparagus rootstalk. The cover 1 has in its centre a growth indicator which projects into the interior 2 and which takes the form of a raisable horizontal plate 3 fastened to a bar 4, this bar being held on the cover 1 externally by means of a supporting sleeve 5 or a spring. For ventilation or for the passage of water, the cover 1 is provided at corresponding lower points 6 with passage orifices which are protected against the incidence of light. A covering 8, which ensures darkening during harvesting, is arranged over the covering cowl for the harvesting operation. <IMAGE>
