PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wound dressing including an assembly or tow of continuous long fibers for receiving and retaining wound fluids in the treatment of acute and chronic wounds.SOLUTION: A method is provided for treating a wound that includes incorporating a wound dressing comprising a plurality of fibers, each fiber having a length of at least two inches, into a wound to cause the walls of the wound to remain apart and allow the wound to heal from the inside to the outside, and removing the wound exudate. According to another aspect of the disclosure, a wound dressing apparatus 200 is configured to promote the healing of a wound, and may be used in conjunction with an NWPT system.
