The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions of theneuroactive steroid 3.alpha.-hydroxy-3.beta.-methoxymethyl-21-(1.prime.-imidazolyl)-5.alpha.-pregnan-20-one or a pharmaceutically-acceptable salt orsolvate thereof., with properties desirable for use in treating mood disordersand the like. The pharmaceutical compositions provide sustained therapeuticplasma levels of 3.alpha.-hydroxy- 3.beta.-methoxymethyl-21-(1.prime.-imidazolyl)-5.alpha.-pregnan-20-one. The present invention also relates tomethods of treating these disorders by administering the pharmaceuticalcompositions.
