PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air purification unit and method capable of efficiently removing nitrogen oxides (NOx), especially nitrogen monoxide (NO), as pollutants contained in the air by passing the air without providing equipment such as a blower to forcibly pass the air when removing the pollutants contained in the air.SOLUTION: Air purification unit 1 comprises: a pollutant removal layer 10 in which a plurality of catalyst fiber sheet materials 11 obtained by molding catalyst fibers capable of removing pollutants contained in air into a sheet shape are stacked and arranged so that a ventilation space 12 is formed between facing surfaces of adjacent catalyst fiber sheet materials 11 separated by a predetermined interval； and a photocatalyst layer 20 including a photocatalyst 21 capable of oxidizing the pollutants contained in the air； wherein the photocatalyst layer 20 is arranged so as to be adjacent to the pollutant removal layer 10 and is configured to allow air to pass through the ventilation space 12.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3COPYRIGHT: (C)2020,JPO&INPIT【課題】空気に含まれる汚染物質を除去するにあたり、強制的に空気を通流させるための送風機等の設備を設けることなく、空気を通流させて、その空気に含まれる汚染物質としての窒素酸化物（ＮＯｘ）、特に一酸化窒素（ＮＯ）を効率的に除去することができる空気浄化ユニット及び空気浄化方法を実現する。【解決手段】空気浄化ユニット１は、空気に含まれる汚染物質を除去可能な触媒繊維がシート状に成型された、複数の触媒繊維シート材１１が、所定の間隔で離間して隣り合う触媒繊維シート材１１どうしの対向面間に通風空間１２が形成されるように積層配置されて構成された汚染物質除去層１０と、空気に含まれる汚染物質を酸化させることができる光触媒２１を有する光触媒層２０とを備え、光触媒層２０は、汚染物質除去層１０に隣り合うように配置されるとともに、通風空間１２に対して空気を通風可能に構成されている。【選択図】図３
