A tampon (10) comprising a string member (22) and an absorbent body (20), said absorbent body being formed by compressing an original (non-compressed) absorbent body (30), which is in a flat shape and has the string member (22) attached thereto, into a cylindrical shape, characterized in that the original absorbent body has concave parts or openings (40, 50), said concave parts or openings (40, 50) being in a long and narrow shape with a longitudinal direction and a width direction, and the longitudinal direction in the concave parts or openings (40, 50) inclines to the longitudinal direction of the string member (22) that is sewn on the absorbent body (20).
