A tub or vessel for use with a humidifier is described. The tub includes a lid (86), a base for holding water or liquid to be evaporated (82) and an intermediate flow plate or grate (84). The tub is sealed by a resilient ring around the perimeter of the flow plate (94) which is engaged by the flanges on the lid and base. The central section of the flow plate (96) is separated from the perimeter by multiple arms or extensions (100) that leave gaps for vapour. A humidifier that uses such a tub is also disclosed.
