PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the generation of chlorine dioxide in a solution for ophthalmic use comprising a chlorite.SOLUTION: A preservative composition for the ophthalmic use comprises a chlorite and at least one stabilizer selected from the following (1) to (7). The solution for the ophthalmic use comprising the preservative composition for the ophthalmic use is excellently safe and maintains preservative effects over a long period because the generation of the chloride dioxide is inhibited. The (1) to (7) are as follows.
