To provide a medical treatment apparatus that automatically detects the situation where light irradiated for the treatment of a subject is in risk of entering his/her eyes by mistake and adjusts the strength of light so as to remove this risk and ensures the safe use of the instrument for a long time.
SOLUTION: The medical treatment instrument includes an irradiator 12 to emit light, together with a light guide 13 surrounding the irradiator and suction means and so that the apparatus can execute both light irradiation and suction operation during treatment. When light, after leaving the opening of the light guide, is detected to have a physical quantity corresponding to the situation of risk of directly entering the subjects eyes and the control section adjusts the intensity of light into a level not harmful to human eyes even if the light directly enters the eyes. ON the contrary, when the physical quantity of light detected after leaving the opening of light guide is found to correspond to the situation of failure of light in reaching any other area than the skin and the control section increases the intensity of light. The apparatus makes it possible to either avoid the risk of light irradiated from the irradiator 12 entering the subjects eyes by mistake via the opening of light guide and or secure the need for satisfactory treatment performance by the light with appropriate strength in the event of light contacting no other area than the skin.
