A disposable lid 480 for canister preferably for use with a medical waste system comprising a head portion 484 and a cylindrical portion 482, said head portion 484 including a suction port 486 (a-c) and a vacuum port and the cylindrical 482 portion being hollow and in communication with the section and vacuum ports. The lid 480 may further comprise a hydrophobic filter in communication with the vacuum port. The lid 480 may also have a tab 490 mounted on a circumferential edge of the head portion 484.
