PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which appropriately extracts a vertebral body area from a medical image.
SOLUTION: The CPU 101 of an image processor 100 extracts a body area respectively from a series of tomographic images of a subject and sets a region of interest including the vertebral body area from the extracted body area. The CPU 101 subjects each pixel within the region of interest to threshold processing in which a threshold is defined as the CT value of a sponge bone, thereby extracting the vertebral body (bone) area. Moreover, the CPU101 determines whether the extracted vertebral body area is appropriate or not. That is, the CPU 101 calculates, for each centroid coordinates (x, y) in the vertebral body area of each tomographic image, an approximate straight line expressing an x-z relationship and calculates an approximate curve expressing a y-z relationship. Then the CPU determines, regarding a tomographic image wherein the centoid coordinates are deviated by more than or eqal to a predetermined value from the calculated x-z approximate straight line or the y-z approximate curve, that the vertebral body area is not extracted appropriately, and the CPU corrects the vertebral body area by an interpolation processing or the like using the vertebral body area of an adjacent tomographic image.
