The device (10) comprises providing a first receiving device (20a)； a second receiving device (20b)； heating means and separating means. The first receiving device (20a) receives a first tube (1a). The second receiving device (20b) receives a second tube (1b). The heating means heats a separating region of the first tube (1a) arranged on the first receiving device (20a) and a separating region of the second tube (1b) arranged on the second receiving device (20b). The separating means separates each of the first (1a) and second tubes (1b) in the heated separating region into a first and a second tube portions. The first (20a) and second (20b) receiving devices are each designed to hold the respective first tube portion such that it extends at least in part along a plane and at least one of the two receiving devices (20a, 20b) is mounted rotatably about an axis of rotation that runs at least approximately perpendicularly to the plane. The device (10) is deigned such that after separation of the first (1a) and second (1b) tubes, an end of the first tube portion of the first tube (1a) can be brought into mechanical contact with an end of the first tube portion of the second tube (1b) with rotation of the first and/or second receiving device (20, 20b) about the axis of rotation.
