A fastener cartridge can comprise a support portion, a tissue thicknesscompensator positioned relative to the supportportion, and a plurality of fasteners positioned within the support portionand/or the tissue thickness compensator which can be utilizedto fasten tissue. In use, the fastener cartridge can be positioned in a firstjaw of a surgical fastening device, wherein a secondjaw, or anvil, can be positioned opposite the first jaw. To deploy thefasteners, a staple- deploying member is advanced through thefastener cartridge to move the fasteners toward the anvil. As the fastenersare deployed, the fasteners can capture at least a portion ofthe tissue thickness compensator therein along with at least a portion of thetissue being fastened.
