Disclosed is an injection syringe device with a retractable needle with a trigger and releasable lock mechanism for improved safety for users and patients by reducing accidental discharges of the needle. The device contains a housing with a syringe needle that in a retracted position and contained within the housing or an extended position where the needle is outside the housing. A spring drives the syringe and needle from the retracted to the extended position through an exit aperture. A trigger when in a rest position, retains the compressed spring, then when the trigger is moved to an active position, the spring drive is released, which extends the needle. A releasable locking mechanism is movable from a first position, in which the trigger is prevented from moving into its active position, to a second position, in which the trigger can be moved to its active position. The trigger has a separate activation surface, and while pressure is applied to the activation surface, the releasable locking mechanism is moved from its first to its second position and the trigger can be moved from its rest position to its active position.
