The invention provides a medicinal composition for the prevention and treatment of climacteric metancholia and/or osteoporosis, and the process for preparing its extract, wherein the composition is prepared from Chinese angelica root, astragalus root and barren wort by a predetermined proportion through grilling and boiling. The composition can also be prepared from Chinese angelica root polysaccharide, astragalus root polysaccharides, ethanol extract of astragalus root and barren wort by a predetermined proportion. Tests show that, the composition or extract has good effects of estrogenic sampling, promoting bone cell proliferation and differentiation, thus can be further used for developing Chinese medicament for preventing and treating climacteric metancholia and osteoporosis.
