The device has a flexible element (30) i.e. sleeve, that is designed to surround a body part, and a pressure sensor element hinged on the flexible element. The flexible element comprises a stiffening apparatus. The pressure sensor element is designed as a photoelectric sensor, a capacitive sensor, an accelerometer and a pressure sensor that is embedded in a gel pad (44). An electrode measures impedance and potential of a sensor device. An external fixation part (50) is partially fixed around the flexible element. The stiffening apparatus includes an air-tight envelope with a connection tube. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring blood pressure of a living being.
