The tie includes an elastic loop adapted in use to wrap around the cut umbilical cord near the open end. The elastic loop is configured in use to 5 compress a substantial length of the cut umbilical cord so as to reduce the likelihood of the elastic loop slipping off the open end of the cut embilical cord.
