The device (1) comprises a catheter (10) with a distal end (11) and a position sensor (12) arranged spaced apart from the distal end (11) in a proximal direction. The position sensor (12) is configured to provide position data. The device (1) further comprises a processing unit (20), wherein the processing unit (20) is configured to process given anatomical data of the anatomical structure, to detect a path of the catheter (10) through the anatomical structure based on the anatomical data and the position data of the position sensor (12), and to determine a specific position of the distal end (11) of the catheter (10)in the anatomical structure based on the path and the position data of the position sensor (12).
