[Problem] To provide: an oily food material that is for coating frozen desserts and that has excellent solidification ability, control of per area weight, and crack suppressing effect while maintaining fine ability to melt in the mouth and a frozen dessert using the oily food material. [Solution] The oily food material is formulated so as to, regarding the composition of triglycerides in fats and oils, satisfy all conditions regarding containing StOO by not less than 10 wt%, a triglyceride, of which the total number of carbon atoms in a constituent fatty acid is 30-38, by 8-30 wt%, POP by not more than 15 wt%, and SUS by less than 15 wt% and/or SUU by less than 30 wt%. Further preferably, the contained amount of POO is not more than 20 wt%.
