PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that a conventional sphygmomanometer cannot measure under no stress that a person to be measured is in physically and mentally stable states before blood pressure measurement.SOLUTION: A sphygmomanometer includes a microwave generator and a microwave receiver, detects at least the pulses or breaths of the person to be measured from doppler shifted reflected wave detected by the microwave receiver, and starts blood pressure measurement based on the result of the detection. Since the condition of the person to be measured can be detected without touching him or her, his or her condition can be determined under no stress. The result of the blood pressure measurement can also be recorded corresponding to the physically and mentally stable states before the blood pressure measurement.
