The present invention provides novel lactic acid bacteria and a use for the same. The lactic acid bacteria are separated from kimchi and thus highly safe, and have various types of biological activities, such as memory improving activity, tight junction protein expression inducing activity, antioxidative activity, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) generation-suppressing activity, or -glucuronidase inhibition activity. The novel lactic acid bacteria, according to the present invention, can be used as functional food and a drug material for preventing, alleviating, or treating degenerative cerebropathia or a cognitive disorder.본 발명은 김치에서 분리되어 안전성이 높고 기억력 개선 활성, 밀착연접단백질(tight junction protein) 발현 유도 활성, 항산화 활성, 지질다당류(lipopolysaccharide, LPS) 생성 억제 활성 또는 베타-글루쿠로니다제(β-glucuronidase) 저해 활성 등과 같은 다양한 생리활성을 갖는 신규 유산균 및 이의 용도를 제공한다. 본 발명에 따른 신규 유산균은 퇴행성 뇌질환 또는 인지기능 장애의 예방, 개선 또는 치료를 위한 기능성 식의약 소재로 사용될 수 있다.
