The present invention relates to the use of plasminogen or biologically active variants thereof for the manufacture of a medicament for topical administration of one or more doses of plasminogen or a biologically active variant thereof which promotes wound healing in a subject. The dose is about 2 mg to about 30 mg. The frequency of administration may vary from once a day to once a week.
