PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel hair growth promoting agents that have excellent a hair growth promoting effect and are useful as a component of hair growth agents, and to provide hair growth agents containing the same.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a hair growth promoting agent containing as an active ingredient a hair growth promoting agent containing as an active ingredient at least one selected from the group consisting of methylglyoxal as well as derivatives and salts thereof, and a hair growth agent containing the same.
