This invention relates to the identification and characterisation of specificcellular responses which are associated with tumour necrosis factor receptor 1(TNFRl) and tumour necrosis factor receptor 2 (TNFR2). Selective modulationsof these responses may be useful in the promotion or inhibition of cellgrowth, for example, in the treatment of disease conditions, includingcardiovascular and kidney diseases. Therapeutic methods employed selectiveTNFRl and TNFR2 modulators are provided, along with screening methods for theidentification of selective TNFRl and TNFR2 modulators useful in such methods.
