The invention relates to a method and a respective computer program with a program code to execute said method, said method being arranged for training a preferred retinal locus of fixation (efficient PRL) for a person having an eye with a field of vision comprising an area (83) of partially diminished or entirely degenerated visual acuity. The method is characterized in the steps: a) determining an inefficient retinal region (82) outside said area (83) in said field of vision of said eye of said person and a more efficient retinal region (81) for said specific vision task outside said area (83) in said field of vision of said eye of said person and b) inducing a preferred retinal locus of fixation (efficient PRL) for a vision task outside said inefficient retinal region (82) but in said more efficient retinal region (81). In addition the invention relates to a device for training a preferred retinal locus of fixation (efficient PRL) for a person having an eye with a field of vision comprising an area (83) of partially diminished or entirely degenerated visual acuity.
