A method for producing boxer-type briefs wherein first and second continuous webs (1,4) are formed into a dual layer base web (7) with a side edge (3,6) of the first continuous web (1) being brought in alignment with a side edge of the second continuous web (4). The dual layer base web (7) is moved in a machine direction (MD) and is intermittently bonded within rectangular bond areas (9) extending in the cross machine direction (CD) from the aligned side edges (3,6) of the first and second continuous webs (1,4) a distance corresponding to less than half the width of the continuous webs (1,4). A T-shaped cut (12) is formed through the dual layer base web (7) in each bond area (9) where after the base web (7) is brought into a single-layer configuration by folding the second continuous web (4) away from the first continuous web (1) along the aligned edges (3,6) of the webs (1,4). Unfolding of the dual layer base web (7) causes the bonded and cut portions of the base web (7) to assume a configuration with first and second triangular pockets (16, 17) arranged on each side of an hourglass shaped hole (18) in the single layer base web (7).
