Disclosed is a method of wetting a low energy hydrophobic surface (such as having a static or advancing water contact angle of greater than about 90 degrees) with a relatively high surface energy aqueous liquid, the method comprising the step of: adding a wetting composition to the liquid and contacting the low energy surface with the liquid comprising the wetting composition, wherein the wetting composition comprises: greater than or equal to about 50 wt% of a C5 to C12 alcohol (most preferably octanol) and a non-ionic, anionic, cationic or zwitterionic surfactant (preferably an alcohol alkoxylate).
