An energy conveying structure 106 for electrosurgery that provides for combined delivery of RF/microwave energy for tissue treatment (e.g. ablation, coagulation, cutting), and optical radiation within a common structure. The energy conveying structure 106 comprises a coaxial structure providing an outer conductive layer 124 formed coaxially with an inner conductive layer 128, the layers separated by a dielectric 126. The inner conductive layer 128 is further hollow to form a longitudinal passage forming an optical channel. The optical channel preferably receives an optical cable 140 comprising both an illumination optical fibre bundle for conveying light along the channel in a first direction, and an imaging optical fibre bundle for conveying an image signal along the channel in a second, opposite direction. An optical sensor (i.e. camera) (258, Fig 9) may further be provided to detect the optical radiation being conveyed along the channel. The information relating to the detected radiation (i.e. image) may further be displayed on a display device (monitor, screen etc.) The energy conveying structure 106 preferably forms an instrument cable (104, Fig 1) of a surgical scoping device (100, Fig 1). A claim is also provided directed to an electrosurgical device comprising the energy conveying structure.
