PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective antimicrobial composition that does not develop tolerance and exhibits sufficient tolerance when used in mammalian tissues, particularly moist tissues of mammals, such as nasal passages, anterior nostrils, vagina, and wounds.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, there is provided an antimicrobial composition, which is a water-in-oil emulsion. Here, the composition comprises: a disinfectant selected from the group consisting of biguanide, bisbiguanide, high molecular weight quaternary ammonium compounds, silver and its complexes, low molecular weight quaternary ammonium compounds, and combinations thereof； and (C5 to 10) monohydroxy alcohol, alpha-hydroxy acids； beta-hydroxy acid； phenolic compound, or an enhancer component comprising a combination thereof； a surfactant excluding lecithin； and a hydrophobic vehicle.
