The present invention proposes the use of a Mirabilis Jalapa extract for the non-therapeutic cosmetic treatment of sensitive skin, an active ingredient and a cosmetic composition corresponding thereto. The extract is preferably obtained by alcohol extraction of the aerial parts of the plant. The Mirabilis jalapa extract according to the invention makes it possible to reduce the overproduction of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and the TRPV1 receptor, to thicken the epidermis and to improve the barrier function of the stratum corneum. La présente invention propose l'utilisation d'un extrait de Mirabilis Jalapa pour le traitement cosmétique non thérapeutique des peaux sensibles, un ingrédient actif et une composition cosmétique correpondants. L'extrait est de préférence obtenu par extraction alcoolique des parties aériennes de la plante. L'extrait de Mirabilis jalapa selon l'invention permet de réduire la surproduction de Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) et du récepteur TRPV1, d'épaissir l'épiderme et d'améliorer la fonction de barrière du stratum corneum.
