PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject information acquisition device capable of acquiring accurate subject information while suppressing an arithmetic amount.SOLUTION: A subject information acquisition device includes signal acquisition means for acquiring a reception signal obtained by receiving an acoustic wave propagating from a subject through a holding member, and an information processing part for acquiring characteristic information on the subject using the reception signal and a delay time until the acoustic wave generated in the subject enters an element. The information processing part classifies each of a plurality of unit regions set to the subject into a first or second group, calculates a corresponding delay time using a sound speed in a propagation path of the acoustic wave from the unit region to the element for each of the unit regions belonging to the first group, and calculates a corresponding delay time by performing interpolation processing for each of the unit regions belonging to the second group.
