The apparatus includes a heating chamber, a ceramic filter and a humidification chamber. The heating chamber heats a gas or air to a sterilization temperature to sterilize the gas. The humidification chamber is adapted so that a liquid such as water, which has been filtered by the filter, evaporates from an exposed surface of a wicking substrate into the sterilized gas, causing the sterilized gas to cool, and supplying a humidified gas at a desired temperature.
