607789 Disclosed is a low cost or simplified sterilization and humidification apparatus used separately or part of an incubator to provide ventilation or for treatment of breathing or respiratory conditions in infants or babies. The apparatus includes a heating chamber, a ceramic filter and a humidification chamber. The heating chamber heats a gas or air to a sterilization temperature to sterilize the gas. The humidification chamber is adapted so that a liquid such as water, which has been filtered by the filter, evaporates from an exposed surface of a wicking substrate into the sterilized gas, causing the sterilized gas to cool, and supplying a humidified gas at a desired temperature.
