Provided is a method for coating the surfaces of inorganic particles with a silicone compound wherein the method makes it possible to readily produce a more uniform coating, to reduce residual Si-H groups in the coating even when methyl hydrogen polysiloxane or another such silicone compound having Si-H groups is used, and to reduce the amount of hydrogen gas generated. A solution containing a silicone compound modified by the addition of an alkali, and an inorganic particle slurry are mixed in a wet grinding machine or a wet mixing machine, or a solution containing a silicone compound to which an alkali has been added, and an inorganic particle powder are mixed in a dry grinding machine or a dry mixing machine, and the surfaces of the inorganic particles are coated with the silicone compound. Dimethyl polysiloxane, methyl hydrogen polysiloxane, or the like is used as the silicone compound.
