PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel glycerol group-containing organopolysiloxane and a method for producing the same without requiring special purification processes, and to provide a cosmetic not generating an odor with passage of time while giving a moist feeling without stickiness.SOLUTION: The glycerol group-containing organopolysiloxane comprises a glycerol group-containing substituent shown by general formula (1) which is bonded to at least one silicon atom of an organopolysiloxane segment that configures a main chain. In the general formula (1), X and Y each independently represents a divalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms m represents an integer of 0 to 4 and Z represents an organic group shown by general formula (2).
