An instrument for delivering a dose of a drug containing activated carbon particles to the rectal cavity of a patient has a rectal insertable cannula. The cannula has a proximal opening, a distal opening, and a cavity for containing a drug defined between the proximal opening and the distal opening. An openable closure covers the proximal opening of the cannula. The actuating means is arranged to push a volume of fluid, such as water or air, through the cannula cavity to allow a dose of drug to flow through the distal opening of the cannula.
