A tibial component (161) for use in knee arthroplasty comprising: (a) a tibial base (162) having (i) an inferior surface (164) for engagement with a prepared surface at the proximal end of a tibia and (ii) a passageway (170) extending through said base, said passageway in the area of a tibial stem (163) having a wall surface portion defining a Morse taper； (b) the tibial stem extending distally from said base, said tibial stem having a portion (298) defining a Morse taper sized to be snugly engaged in said passageway Morse taper portion； and (c) means (158) for engaging said stem to said base.
