PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a double bearing reel from braking a spool during yarn winding, with an expensive and simple structure.SOLUTION: A spool breaking mechanism 20 includes a spool breaking unit 22, a rotation detection part 31, a rotational speed calculation part 28, a casting condition determination part 30 and a control part 35. The spool braking unit 22 electrically brakes a spool 12. The rotation detection part 31 detects rotation of the spool 12. The rotational speed calculation part 28 acquires a rotational speed ω of the spool 12 from an output of the rotation detection part 31. The casting condition determination part 30 determines whether a fishing reel is in a casting state or not on the basis of a calculation result by the rotational speed calculation part 28.
