A method for evaluating placement of a prosthetic device. The method comprisesdesignating a position in a depiction of an anatomical region that includes afirst structure in whichthe device is to be placed, the depiction showing the first structure and/or ablood pool volume ofa second structure, and wherein the designated position corresponds to aposition in the firststructure at which the device may be placed. The method further comprisesdefining a plane andoffsetting a representation thereof to a point in the depiction(s) at whichthe device would intersectthe blood pool volume if placed at the designated position. The methodcomprises manipulatingthe orientation and/or position of the offset representation and determining across-sectional areaof the blood pool volume along the manipulated representation for evaluatingobstruction throughthe second structure if the device was placed at a corresponding position inthe first structure.
