The use of dianhydrogalactitol provides a novel therapeutic modality for the treatment of non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Dianhydrogalactitol acts as an alkylating agent on DNA that creates N7 methylation. Dianhydrogalactitol is effective in suppressing the growth of cancer stem cells and is active against tumors that are refractory to temozolomide the drug acts independently of the MGMT repair mechanism.El uso de dianhidrogalactitol provee una modalidad terapéutica novedosa para el tratamiento del carcinoma de pulmón de células no pequeñas (NSCLC) y para el tratamiento de glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) el dianhidrogalactitol actúa como un agente alquilizante sobre el ADN que crea metilación de N7 el dianhidrogalactitol es eficaz en la supresión del crecimiento de las células madre de cáncer y es activo contra de tumores que son refractarios a tomozolomida el fármaco actúa independientemente del mecanismo de reparación de la MGMT.
