A method for the release of an active agent from an oleosome is disclosed, wherein the method comprises the steps of: (i) providing an oleosome formulation comprising an encapsulated active agent and a release control agent selected from glycerin or PEG； and (ii) applying the oleosome formulation to a surface in such a manner that the oleosome structure gradually weakens and substantially disintegrates thereby releasing the active agent from the oleosome formulation.
