A medium management system 825 comprises a syringe 332 for injecting a fluid medium, a delivery catheter 334 having a conduit for delivering the fluid medium from outside the body to a selected site within the body, and a syringe. Includes a flow diverter assembly 575 disposed in the fluid medium flow path to and from the delivery catheter. The flow diverter assembly is configured to simultaneously divert at least a portion of the fluid medium in the chamber of the syringe, separate from the delivery of the medium through the conduit of the delivery catheter, during injection by the syringe.
