To provide a process for determining a tooth color of a filling or another restoration which in particular is produced using composite materials, where at least one tooth is scanned or is visually measured.SOLUTION: Natural teeth are spectrally measured in advance. The color values measured are classified within a color space into multiple, in particular four, categories which each form a color cloud 22, 24, 26, 28 extending in a three-dimensional fashion within the color space, where the classification is performed in particular with a pattern recognition algorithm, in particular a nearest neighbour algorithm or a symmetry recognition algorithm.
